Dr. Aneel Kumar joined neurosurgery in 2007 at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, India, which is a leading tertiary care academic canter. During training, he conducted research on the efficacy of peripheral neurectomies for functional improvement in children with spastic cerebral palsy. This work was awarded the best paper at the 36th Annual Conference of the Indian Society for Paediatric Neurosurgery (Kolkata, 2009) and also featured in the top 100 abstracts at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons 2010 conference. He also studied proteomics in the pathophysiology of high-grade gliomas in collaboration with colleagues at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), in India. He later joined as teaching faculty at Nizam's Institute of medical sciences from 2012 to 2016. He was initially assisting and later on, leading the Deep Brain Stimulation program. He routinely coaches colleagues who are beginning to offer this intervention to their patients. He attended several workshops noted of which are “Noble Art of Lesioning”, ESSFN course on pain and spasticity, MDS AOS workshop on DBS. He has not only incorporated several technical improvements in care for his patients but also coached and mentored colleagues who offer intervention for their patients. He is a member of various national and international societies including the Neurological Society of India, the Congress on Neurological Surgeons, the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Movement Disorders Society of India.
